A film to better understand the beloved Gholamreza Takhti

The film "Gholamreza Takhti," directed by Bahram Tavakoli and produced by Saeed Malekan, is an Iranian cinematic production from the year 2018. It was

first screened at the 37th Fajr Film Festival. The film received nominations in 10 categories for the Crystal Simorgh Awards and ultimately won the awards for Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and third place for Best Film according to the audience.

The film comprises three parts of the life of the world-renowned wrestler Gholamreza Takhti, narrating his childhood, adulthood, wrestling competitions, and his passing.

Hamidreza Azarang, Setareh Pesyani, Attila Pesyani, Pari Norouziye, Mojtaba Pirzadeh, Mahour Alvand, Banipal Shomon, Masoumeh Ghasempour, Alireza Goodarzi, Behnoosh Tabatabaei, Mohsen Takhti, and Shahrokh Shahbazi are among the cast members of this cinematic project.

During the production, the creators of the film chose not to disclose any details about the making process, the storyline, the nature of the film, or the cast, keeping the audience curious. The only information that circulated during that time in news and cinema circles was scattered rumors, with perhaps the most significant being the use of special effects and the inclusion and departure of Amir Jadidi from the project as the actor portraying Gholamreza Takhti, as well as the decision to produce and screen the film in black and white.

As Tavakoli stated during a press conference at the Fajr Film Festival, he deliberately avoided delving into discussions about Takhti's manner of death and instead focused on being the narrator of his life and era. The director accepts Takhti's suicide narrative and clarifies this matter at the beginning of the film, allowing the audience to concentrate solely on the character without any distractions.

"Gholamreza Takhti" is a respectable and notable film that effectively introduces popular figures from contemporary history with a compelling and influential language. Its narrative follows a similar pattern to other works such as "Standing in the Dust," directed by Mohammadreza Mehdiyan. Watching "Gholamreza Takhti" on the silver screen evokes a sense of pride accompanied by a longing for moral values within the audience.
